I feel I've had a breakthrough in painting the portrait. This one was especially rewarding, because I captured her essence, her attittude. Her direct gaze is a little intimidating and raw.
Again, a limited palette was used, and the darks are finally dark enough.
Whatever you FEEL about this portrait is visible in your painting. It requires me to 'look back' at her.....because she is a living, breathing human being. I really like this one. The darks punctuate the rest of the painting. Maybe the almost misty area around the eyes makes me keep looking?
Hi - I'm Martha Cowan and I love painting. Actually, I have to paint. My life feels right when I've been painting, and when I haven't been, something's missing. Oils are my favorite medium, although I love soft pastels. I like watercolor and use it for quick studies.
About two years ago I took a workshop with Carol Marine, which changed my life as an artist, because she taught me about daily painting and marketing. I decided to be a daily painter right then and there, although I have not been able to make that happen, due to other obligations, etc. But I post new paintings when I have them - and now I believe that if my followers aren't seeing my paintings every day, but maybe once a week or even once a month, they might actually even get more excited, waiting for the next post with more anticipation!

ReplyDeleteMary Jo, thank you for your comment. I really appreciate that you see more than a mere portrait.
